Elizabeth Opalenik is regarded as one of the most creative photographers of her time, known for her sensual, dreamlike imagery and mastery of alternative photographic processes.
Raised on a farm outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her Amish neighbors’ influence is evident in her personal and cultural projects. She has taught internationally for over 20 years, working with Maine Photographic Workshops, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and National Geographic Expeditions.

Her work has been exhibited in over 60 international shows, is held in major collections such as the Portland Museum of Art and Milwaukee Art Museum, and has appeared in publications like Life Magazine, Camera Arts, and PDN .

Published by Elizabeth Opalenik herself, Poetic Grace includes a series of Mordançage images (a hand‑painted photographic process taught to her by Jean Pierre Sudre), and black-and-white photographs of nudes and flowers often involving water. The work reflects Opalenik’s ability to transform photographic processes into her own expressive voice, from infrared to hand coloring to Mordançage.
