Gary Green, Three or Four Hills, 1/150, 2024, Sewn softbound with lay-flat binding, Hand-sewn mini-booklet tipped into center of book, 25 pages, 10 × 7 inches

A photographic journey through the landscape of Assisi, Italy—renowned as a site of religious pilgrimage—captured through the eyes of photographer Gary Green. Rather than focusing on its spiritual significance, Green wandered the landscape guided by light, shadow, and weather. Three or Four Hills explores how we ascribe meaning to spaces and how rituals surrounding landscapes shape our interactions with them.

“I spent a month walking the winding mountain roads above Assisi, Italy. Given the spiritual nature of the area and its significance among religious pilgrims, my wandering was in the tradition of many who came before me. In my case, though, I had no particular direction except to follow the light.” - G.G
