In this chapbook zine of photographs and poetry, artist Sal Taylor Kydd examines the nature of grief, and the unraveling destabilizing impact it can have in our lives. The zine is printed as a series of risograghs, lending an impressionistic, charcoal softness to the images, further emphasizing the feelings of erasure and dislocation that grieving can bring. in tandem with these images both expansive and intimate, Kydds poetry turn a raw gaze internally, challenging and confronting a turbulent inner landscape. “loss is a gift, to sharpen my teeth on” in contrast, through moments of observation of the minutiae of nature, Kydd finds a sense of solace and renewal, so vital in our ability to heal and find acceptance Leavings is a limited edition zine with just 50 copies printed, signed by the artist.
Maine-based photographic artist and writer Sal Taylor Kydd uses various photographic media in a personal narrative that explores themes around memory and belonging; combining her poetry with alternative processes of photography and object-making. She lives in Rockport, Maine
