Andrew Carnegie alone funded the construction of more than 2,500 libraries built between 1883 and 1929, nearly 1,700 of them in American communities that might otherwise never have had one. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was incorporated in 1870 through the efforts of a private citizens' committee — built not from a royal or imperial collection, but from individuals driven by a love of art. That tradition hasn't ended: in just the past few years, gifts from donors like Oscar and Agnes Hsu-Tang have funded entirely new museum wings.

Their concern was for the greater good: leaving behind not just wealth, but a legacy of stewardship — of our libraries, our museums, our shared cultural landscape. Today, that tradition continues at MMPA, We invite you to join it!
